Misinformation & Misconceptions about skin of color
Black skin is always oily.
This is just because is more visible on a darker surface. The sebaceous glands (they produce sebum, a special kind of oil) in black skin are the same size and produce the same amount of oil as the in white skin.
Black skin is more prone to sweating
This is because sweats glands in black skin are larger than those in white skins, not because they are numerous. This is probably a genetic adaptation of black skin to let it release excess heat and sweat. This is necessary because black skin tends to absorb radiant energy from the sun and is object to overheating.
Black skin cannot burn or tan
Both black and white skin darken with exposure to UV light. Both kinds of skin can suffer severe burning with excessive exposure. Important to remember “Skin of color comes in all tones”.
Black skin can also show signs of sun damage, although less than white skin.
